Joe (Zelig) Sherizen

Zelig ben Shalom, as his stone reads
29 August 1900 – September 1984
Mozyr → Niagara Falls → Rochester → Syracuse
Children Elaine Ruth (married Cohen) (living) · Sanford “Sandy” (living)

Life

Sholom's third son, a tailor. He entered the US at Niagara Falls on 31 December 1923 and married Sonia Litwak in Rochester in 1933. By 1940 they were in Syracuse with their daughter Elaine. His Hebrew name, Zelig, echoes the Zelik of two generations before. His 1933 licence names his mother as “Elaine Rapeport”, not Nechume. It is not known whether that is a half-brother, a second wife, or a garbled entry.
