Leyba Zelikov Sherayzin — R' Yehuda Leib (“Leibel”)
יהודה לייב
Yehuda Leib, as his son's gravestone names him
born about 1834
Karolin / Yelsk, then Mozyr
Spouse Fruma bat Khaim
Life
Zelik's son, 16 at the 1850 revision and 24 in 1858. Three records point to him as Sholom's father: Sholom's Toronto stone (“ben R' Yehuda Leib”), the 1906 Mozyr voter list (“Sholom Leybov”), and the 1858 household. David ruled Leyba = Yehuda Leib proven on 20 September 2026. This is a note on Leyba, not a separate generation. Steven Leof's family tree gives him 1813 to 1906/07, but that conflicts with the revision ages, and the record wins.
Facts
- confirmed Instinct's Oct 20 grade: Zelik–Leyba CONFIRMED by record (same household, son of Zelik, b. about 1834). Leyba = Sholom's father Yehuda Leib: Instinct's record-level grade on Sept 19 was PROBABLE; David ruled it PROVEN on Sept 20, 2026 on three attestations (Sholom's Toronto stone, the 1906 Duma list “Sholom son of Leyb”, the 1858 household). The site shows David's ruling with that history beside it. Source: Instinct's research package to Tab (record transcriptions), Oct 20, 2026 found by Instinct

- confirmed Leyba = Yehuda Leib, ruled proven by David on 20 Sep 2026 from three attestations: Sholom's stone, the 1906 Duma list, and the 1858 household. The household record that would show Sholom under Leyba's roof (the 1874 Mozyr revision) has not been seen. Source: Instinct's tree M197; David's ruling found by Instinct
- confirmed Wife Fruma bat Khaim, about 1840, in the 1858 household. source ↗ found by Instinct
- unproven Steven Leof's tree: “Leibel” Sherizen, b. about 1813, d. Mozyr 1906–07; wife Frances, d. 1889. Tree only, no sources; the 1813 date conflicts with the revisions. Source: Steven Leof's webtrees chart (I00255), read 16 Sep 2026 found by Muse
- unproven Family recollection: Paul ← Herman ← Sholom ← Leib ← Zelik ← Itzko, and Leib likely also had a son Zelik. Source: family recollection (David, voice note 16 Sep 2026) from David
- negative NEGATIVE as sought: the 1874 supplementary revision list (NHAB 333-9-824) does not contain the surname (spellings checked: Serayzin, Shirayzen), per the Belarus archive research service, Oct 17, 2026. A supplementary list records only people added or missed, so this is not a conclusion. The record that would seal the link, Leyba's household with young Sholom in the full 1874 census, has not been found. - negative Sholom's own birth record does not exist: no Mozyr-city or Karolin metrical books survive. Source: Instinct's research package to Tab (record transcriptions), Oct 20, 2026 found by Instinct
